Brewing
Brewing ginseng tea is more than just making a cup—it's a ritual that balances heritage, wellness, and flavor. Follow this detailed guide to get the most from your ginseng blend.
Step 1: Heat Your Water – Precision Matters
- Heat at least 1 cup (8 oz / 240 ml) of fresh, filtered water to 208°F (98°C)—just below a full boil.
- If you don’t have a thermometer, heat the water until you see vigorously rising bubbles but no full rolling boil.
- This high temperature is essential to fully release ginsenosides, the potent natural compounds in ginseng associated with increased energy, immune support, and mental clarity.
Tip: Avoid using reboiled or distilled water—it may dull the tea's flavor and reduce extraction efficiency.
Step 2: Steep the Roots – Release the Goodness
- Use 1 bag of ginseng blend per 8 oz cup of water. You can adjust this depending on your taste and desired strength.
- Place the blend into a heat-safe teapot or mug.
- Pour the hot water over the roots, making sure they’re fully submerged.
- Let steep for 5–10 minutes
- Shorter steep (5 min) yields a milder, more floral brew
- Longer steep (up to 10 min) enhances earthy, bittersweet notes and potency
Optional: Simmer the roots gently on a stovetop for a deeper decoction-style tea, especially if you prefer stronger herbal infusions.
Step 3: Remove & Reuse the Roots – Don’t Waste the Wellness
- Using tongs or a strainer, carefully remove the softened ginseng roots from the tea.
- Place them on a clean towel or paper napkin to dry.
- You can reuse the same roots 1–2 more times within the same day.
- Each successive brew will have a subtler flavor, but still retain therapeutic properties.
Tip: Store used roots in an airtight container in the fridge between uses to preserve freshness.
Step 4: Customize & Sip – Your Ritual, Your Way
- Rooted in Mad Ginseng Tea has a naturally earthy, slightly sweet flavor that can stand beautifully on its own. But if you're in the mood to mix things up or tailor your tea to the occasion, you can consider adding honey, fresh ginger slices, lemon wedge, fruits or even spices.
